Water Features & Irrigation
Aquascape Water Features in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Star, Nampa, Caldwell and Middleton, Idaho
Hockema now offers three installed Aquascape water features with starting prices: a pond with waterfall, a pondless waterfall with stream, and fountain systems. Here is how to choose, and what each needs in an Idaho climate.
Moving water changes how a backyard feels. A waterfall covers street noise, a fountain gives a patio a focal point, and a pond turns one corner of the yard into something you walk out to see. This fall, Hockema Landscape Design & Build introduced three installed Aquascape water feature options with clear starting prices, so homeowners in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Star, Nampa, Caldwell and Middleton can see what is available before the first consultation.
This guide covers each option, what it costs to start, how it holds up through an Idaho winter, and how to decide which one fits your property.
The Three Options at a Glance
- 8' × 11' Aquascape System Pond with Waterfall: starting at $15,500
- Pondless Waterfall with Small Stream: starting at $9,500
- Aquascape Fountain Systems: starting at $5,500
A starting price covers the base system. The final number depends on the site, the stone and planting around the feature, and how it ties into the rest of the landscape, and it is set after an on-site consultation.
Aquascape Ecosystem Pond with Waterfall
The pond is designed as a living focal point. It combines moving water, natural stone, aquatic plants and the option to include koi. Proper filtration and circulation create an ecosystem built to maintain water quality while blending into the surrounding landscape.
It is the option for homeowners who want the water to be the centerpiece of the yard. It needs the most space of the three and the most care in placement, so it suits properties with room to give it a clear view from the patio or the windows.
Pondless Waterfall with Small Stream
A pondless waterfall gives you the sound and movement of a natural waterfall without an open pond. Water runs over natural stone, disappears into a concealed underground reservoir, and is pumped back to the start of the stream.
The footprint is smaller and the seasonal maintenance is simpler than a traditional pond, which makes it a natural fit for patios, gardens and outdoor living areas. If you are still weighing the two, our comparison of ponds and pondless waterfalls goes deeper on safety, upkeep and cost.
Aquascape Fountain Systems
A fountain brings moving water into the landscape without the space a pond or stream requires. Professionally installed fountain systems work in patios, entry gardens, courtyards and existing planting areas, and they carry the lowest starting price of the three options.
Designed for Idaho Winters and Summers
Water features here face conditions that milder climates do not. Freeze-thaw cycles can affect pumps, plumbing and other components, and Idaho's hot, dry summers increase evaporation. Exposure, wind, drainage and sun all influence where a feature belongs and how it should be built.
Those conditions are evaluated during design, and each installation is specified with pumps, filtration, materials and winterization procedures suited to the property. Our guide to winterizing a water feature in Idaho explains what shutdown involves for each type.
Water Features in Caldwell, Nampa and Middleton
Homeowners in Caldwell, Nampa and Middleton can have any of the three options installed. The same questions apply at every address: where the feature will be seen from, how much sun and wind the spot gets, where water drains, and how the feature relates to existing irrigation and plantings.
Water Features in Boise, Eagle, Meridian and Star
Properties in Boise, Eagle, Meridian and Star range from established yards to newer lots and larger parcels, so the right feature usually depends more on the space and the sun than on the zip code. A fountain may be the answer for a courtyard, a pondless stream for a sloped side yard, and a pond for a lot with room to show it off.
How the Process Works
It starts with an on-site consultation and property assessment. We look at grade and drainage, sun exposure, existing irrigation, surrounding vegetation, and how the water feature will interact with the rest of the property. Only then do we develop the design and system specifications.
Water features are designed as part of the larger landscape, not as isolated additions. Natural stone, planting, hardscaping and outdoor lighting can be built around the feature so it becomes part of the whole outdoor space.
We want the finished feature to look like it was considered from the beginning. Whether it's a pond, a stream or a fountain, the water should work with the landscape and create an experience homeowners enjoy every time they step outside.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an Aquascape water feature cost in the Treasure Valley?
Starting prices are $15,500 for the 8' × 11' Aquascape system pond with waterfall, $9,500 for a pondless waterfall with a small stream, and $5,500 for Aquascape fountain systems. Final pricing depends on the property and is set after an on-site consultation.
Do you install water features in Caldwell, Nampa and Middleton?
Yes. Hockema installs water features in Caldwell, Nampa and Middleton, as well as Boise, Eagle, Meridian and Star, and throughout the Treasure Valley, Ketchum and Sun Valley.
Which water feature needs the least maintenance?
A pondless waterfall has no open pond and simpler seasonal maintenance than a traditional pond. A fountain system has the smallest footprint of the three. A pond, especially one with koi, asks the most of its owner, which is the tradeoff for the living ecosystem it creates.
Can a water feature handle an Idaho winter?
Yes, when it is designed for it. Freeze-thaw cycles can affect pumps, plumbing and other components, so each installation is specified with pumps, filtration, materials and winterization procedures suited to Idaho's climate.
Can I have koi in the pond?
The Aquascape pond system can include koi. Filtration and circulation are designed to maintain water quality as part of the pond's ecosystem.
What happens at the first consultation?
We visit the property and assess grade and drainage, sun exposure, existing irrigation and surrounding vegetation, and how a water feature would work with the rest of the landscape. The design and system specifications come after that assessment.
